Meet the Fabiaceae Family!
Aka, the Pea Family, the Legume Family, the Bean Family, or as I like to call them, the Fabs…
This is the third in a series of plant identification posts. My goal is to help teach you some simple plant family characteristics that you can then take with you into the field.
In case you missed them, the first post was all about the Rose Family (Rosaceae Family) and the second about the Apiaceae Family
Who doesn’t love a Sweet Pea? Maybe it’s those beautiful pastel ruffles or that cheerful scent? Or maybe it goes even a little deeper?
Turns out we have a long and important relationship with the Fabs.
I suspect you probably don’t give those chickpeas on the salad bar a second thought, but honestly I think you’ll be amazed once you read on and learn about the important—or more like critical—role that the Fabiaceae family have played in human history.
It’s simply fabulous.
PS: I’ve tucked in a special *bonus video* below for Flora+Forage Insiders that highlights the fascinating (and fabulous) medicinal benefits of mimosa!
